His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has received His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, at Al Badee Palace.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah welcomed the President of the Republic of Uganda and his accompanying delegation and they discussed topics related to education, culture and local community development, in addition to the industrial, commercial and economic fields for development.
The meeting discussed Sharjah’s ongoing projects in several African countries and Uganda in particular, with emphasis on education, culture and infrastructure development and the exchange of expertise and consolidating bilateral relations, improving economic resources, and achieving communication in various educational and community fields.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah listened to a detailed explanation of the progress of the Busoga International Technical Institute, established his patronage and inaugurated in 2021. The institute comprises specializations in mechanical and electrical engineering and carpentry to train and qualify male and female students to work as professional cadres. The number of graduates from the institute since its inception has reached 254 technicians in various fields of the institute's specialization.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, reviewed design plans for the Kidepo International Airport project in Uganda for the local community there. His Highness was briefed on the project’s various facilities that provide advanced services to passengers traveling through the airport and its commercial activity. His Highness also viewed photos of the Busoga Institute and its facilities, including workshops, classrooms, and graduation ceremonies.
The airport to be built is located in the Kidepo Reserve in Uganda, and features a 3.6-kilometre runway and a building that can accommodate 2 million passengers annually, making it a distinguished project that contributes to upgrading domestic and international travel services, linking the region to global cities, in addition to other services related to the project such as trade, tourism, employment, and training for local cadres.
For his part, His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for the warm reception and great support for undertaking various development projects, and His Highness’s follow-up and interest in students and youth in different countries, training and qualifying them in various fields to help local communities.
The meeting was attended by Rashid bin Ahmed Al Sheikh, Chairman of the Emiri Court, Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Chamber, Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department, Abdullah Hassan Obaid Hassan Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Uganda, Zaki Kebede, Ugandan Ambassador to the UAE, Mohammed Ahmed Amin, Director General of Sharjah Chamber, and the delegation accompanying the President of the Republic of Uganda.
