Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has organised the Sharjah Excellence Award Best Practices Forum 2024, under the theme “We Innovate to Communicate”.
The forum underscores the Sharjah Chamber's commitment to strengthening partnerships with various business sectors and emphasising the significant contributions of youth in enhancing the communication industry and driving positive institutional practices within the UAE and across the region.
Held at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP), the forum was attended by H.E Salem bin Ali Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Sharjah, and Halima Humaid Ali Al Owais, SCCI Board Member.
Also present were Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI; Nada Al Hajri, General Coordinator of the Sharjah Excellence Award, and Jamal Saeed Buzanjal, Director of Corporate Communication Department at SCCI, as well as representatives from the Sharjah Chamber, Sharjah Police General Directorate, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), and Sharjah Media City (Shams).
The forum delved into a range of topics related to traditional and modern media, examining their societal influence and the pivotal role of media in shaping public perceptions. It highlighted the significance of effective communication in building relationships between organisations and community members. It also explored strategies for achieving excellence and innovation in the government media and communication sector as key drivers in supporting a knowledge-driven, creative economy.
In his remarks, Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi affirmed that the Best Practices Forum is one of the key milestones of the Sharjah Excellence Award, held annually by the Sharjah Chamber under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
He emphasised the Chamber's commitment to cultivating a culture of quality and institutional excellence and promoting the adoption of best practices among private sector entities in the UAE and GCC to strengthen their contribution to sustainable development and economic growth in the region.
He noted that the forum's themes mark the annual Kick-off point of the Sharjah Excellence Award, with the latest edition centered on the concepts and practices of excellence and innovation in the government media and communication sector. This focus stems from an understanding of the crucial role government communication plays as a key partner in building the economy and enhancing the resilience and efficiency of economic and developmental sectors.
The forum’s main discussion session featured a select group of experts, academics, specialists, and distinguished speakers in the field of communication and media. Among them are Nayla Al Khaja, the first Emirati female film producer, director, and scriptwriter, and Alya Al Souqi, Head of PR and Media Relations at SCTDA.
The session was further enriched by Abdullah Al Sharhan, Director of Creative Services at Sharjah Media City (Shams), along with Majid Khaled Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Sharjah Youth Council.
The discussions focused on the best practices adopted by the institutions recognised by the Sharjah Excellence Award for their contributions in the media and communication fields.
During the session, participants discussed a range of key topics, including the importance of enhancing communication within institutions and among individuals. They also explored the role of digital media and social media in strengthening communication, alongside the continued influence of traditional media on business operations.
Furthermore, the discussions covered the diverse fields of media and their application in driving institutional strategies, the communication trends within emerging organisations, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into communication practices.
The speakers analysed the impact of media in the age of technological advancements, underscoring its significant role beyond information dissemination to include shaping decision-making at multiple levels.
They also highlighted the crucial involvement of youth in the media and communication sector, recognising them as a key pillar for leading future media transformation, with young people serving as a driving force behind the development of innovative media practices.
