The Hotel Apartment Business Group that works under the umbrella of Sharjah Chamber researched a number of steps and procedures that aim to activate the performance of hotel apartments and their contribution to tourism growth in the emirate, including stimulating cooperation with government entities in Sharjah, conducting field visits to mitigate obstacles being faced by the hotel apartment sector, and organizing training courses to improve performance and effectiveness in collaboration with Sharjah Chamber.
Decisions and recommendations were made during a meeting recently held by the business group in Sharjah Chamber’s headquarters, whereby participants agreed on the vital role being played by the hotel apartment sector in accommodating the tourist influx into the emirate as the a perfect destination for overnight and longer stays for tourists coming from the other emirates, thanks to Sharjah’s strategic location and the availability of family tourism and tourist and cultural facilities.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Director of the Economic Relations Department at Sharjah Chamber, said: “Sharjah Chamber is keen to reinforce strategic partnerships between the private and government sectors, and aims to raise the level of the private sector’s performance by overcoming obstacles and facilitating its operations and enhancing its competitive edge.”
Al Jarwan pointed out that the tourism sector in Sharjah is one of the major contributors to the emirate’s versatile economy, thanks to the wise leadership of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as the increasing number of hotel apartments in Sharjah draws more tourists to the emirate that enjoys the essentials that attract regional, global and local tourism.
Al Jarwan expressed Sharjah Chamber’s keenness to support this vital sector and increase coordination with it to achieve mutual goals, and stressed Sharjah Chamber’s mission to provide support to all sectors that play a major role in growth and development.
For his part Khaled bin Kuweir, Head of the Hotel Apartment Business Group, said that the meeting confirmed the importance of innovation in supporting this sector, and participants approved of a number of recommendations that are expected to contribute to achieving the sector’s goals, and he explained that the group is going to launch a training program in collaboration with Sharjah Chamber that targets all players in this sector, to discuss these courses’ relevance to the needs and requirements of the sector through field visits.
Khaled bin Kuweir stressed that cooperation with government entities in Sharjah is vital due to the nature of the existing partnership between the private and public sectors, and he pointed out that the group is going to coordinate cooperation with a number of government directorates such as Shurooq - Sharjah Investment & Development Authority, the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority, Expo Centre Sharjah and Sharjah Museums, and visits will be made to discuss ways to improve mutual cooperation.
Khaled Al Kuweir said: “We have agreed to distribute promotional print material on the most remarkable tourist locations in Sharjah to hotel apartments, and this promotional material must include vital information, photos, data and information on events that concern each location. We are determined to provide all components that support the growth and development of the tourism sector of Sharjah so that we become an effective player in this distinguished march.”
