Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a workshop on corporate tax in the UAE, which aimed to introduce the corporate tax system by providing a comprehensive presentation of the law and related practices from various legal and procedural aspects, all as part of the Chamber’s initiatives to inform its staff members and government and private sectors and enhance their capabilities in identifying their tax obligations.
The workshop, organized in cooperation with Keshwani Law Firm, provided participants with the legal knowledge and computational and technical skills necessary for corporate tax, starting with an overview of corporate tax in the UAE and its basic rules and companies concerned, with emphasis on tax status of free zone firms and the tax exemptions available to them.
The workshop, presented by lawyer Ahmed Kashwani, CEO and Managing Director of Kashwani Law Firm, the Legal Affairs office at the Chamber, and a number of experts and legal advisors, also discussed the concept of tax domicile under the Corporate Tax Law as well as corporate tax calculations, preparing tax returns, and complying with tax procedures, while the last topic of the workshop shed light on tax crimes and legal action taken in case of violations.
Ali Al-Jari, Sharjah Export Development Center Manager at the Chamber, stressed that the business sector in the emirate enjoys flexibility, legislative facilities and competitive privileges, and that awareness of the corporate tax law falls within the private sector’s commitment to social responsibility and its contribution to sustainability and comprehensive growth, as aligned with international financial trends and standards
Participants in the workshop praised the event and topics covered, explaining the mechanisms of the new corporate tax law and basic technical and procedural expertise. The audience stressed the importance of companies being aware of which the articles of the law apply to them and exemptions, in addition to keeping up with international standards and being globally competitive.
