Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) discussed ways to bolster economic and commercial ties between Sharjah and Kuwait honoring Kuwaiti Diplomatic Mission, with the diplomatic mission of the State of Kuwait in the UAE, and the Kuwait Business Council in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The meeting weighed up on topics that promote the interests of the business communities in Kuwait and the UAE.
In the presence of HE Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, the discussions were held during a business breakfast organized by SCCI in Sharjah in honor of HE Diab Farhan Al-Rashidi, Consul-General of Kuwait in Dubai, as part of SCCI’s official business breakfasts initiative launched last January with the aim of consolidating its business relations with foreign diplomatic missions and business councils operating in the country.
The meeting focused on ways of enhancing the role of commercial delegations, expanding the talks regarding export and the economy in general and forming a joint committee between the SCCI and Kuwait Business Council in Dubai.
High-level attendees included a number of SCCI’s Board Members; HE Khalid bin Butti Al Hajri, Director General of SCCI; senior officials from the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission to the UAE; and Saad Rubaiaan, Chairman of the Kuwait Business Council in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
HE Al Owais praised the deep-rooted, brotherly relations Kuwait and the UAE enjoy on all levels, stating that SCCI has always been keen on consolidating cooperation, communication, business ties and bilateral investment projects between Emirati and Kuwaiti businessmen. Al Owais also invited the business communities of Sharjah and Kuwait to benefit from the available investment opportunities the two countries offer, as well as the official support, facilities and advantages provided by both sides, as they seek to encourage investment and consolidate their historic ties.
HE Al-Rashidi explained that the economic relationship between Kuwait and the UAE is going ever-more strong, underpinned by the deep social and brotherly ties that date back to the pre-oil-discovery era.
HE The Consul-General and members of the diplomatic mission were invited to the Diplomats Tour initiative organized by Department of International Affairs at SCCI, in cooperation with Sharjah’s local government authorities, for foreign diplomats based in the UAE and their spouses to highlight the emirate’s achievements and development in all fields, as well as its cultural, historical and tourist landmarks. The initiative is an endeavor by SCCI to strengthen its relations with foreign diplomatic, consular and commercial representatives in the UAE as a way of boosting the levels of economic cooperation and benefiting the local business community.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the possibility of organizing joint, specialized conferences with the Kuwaiti chambers of commerce and industry spanning the fields of information and communications technology (ICT), new and renewable energy resources and other areas of interest.
The total value of exporting and re-exporting between Sharjah and Kuwait reached AED 1.560 billion during 2016, as per the certificates of origin, issued by SCCI.
