His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, visited Al Dhaid Dates Festival, organized its 7th edition by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, at the Expo Center Al Dhaid, which lasted for four days.
His Highness toured the pavilions of participating entities and viewed the variety of dates and seasonal local fruits. Sheikh Abdullah listened to detailed explanations for items presented, their advantages, and the agricultural environments that farmers care for.
Al Qassimi was briefed on the competitions organized by the Festival and the mechanisms for sorting entries and grading them. Government agencies provide their agricultural services and play their part within plans set by Sharjah emirate for supporting farmers and promoting agricultural activity for self-sufficiency in the various varieties of produce.
His Highness was also briefed on some of the events and accompanying activities organized by the festival in its seventh edition for visitors and participants, which target various segments of society.
The Festival this year witnessed the participation of hundreds of date palm farmers from across the emirate in the competitions for prizes amounting to more than one million dirham in different categories including best palm dates, red figs, Al Haseel dates, best dates basket, with prize amounts ranging from AED1000 – AED 25000.
