Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has received a high-level Ugandan business delegation led by President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda.

Museveni said that the UAE, specifically the Emirate of Sharjah, is held in high regard by Uganda and its people, expressing his appreciation for the emirate’s level of economic leverage in the region, and he praised the successful economic vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The delegation was welcomed by H.E. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman, H.E. Abdullah Hassan Al Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Uganda, and H.E. Waleed Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Second Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, SCCI, as well as H.E. Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General, in addition to a number staff members.

President Yoweri Museveni praised the role that the Sharjah Chamber plays in promoting bilateral economic relations and supporting the emirate’s reputation in the world of finance and business.

He encouraged UAE investors and businesspeople to visit Uganda and explore the many investment opportunities available, particularly in technology, agriculture, industry, and energy, adding that Uganda is the second-largest producer of bananas in the world, produces 2.8 billion liters of milk annually, and has 39 tea-producing factories in the UAE.

For his part, Al Owais stated that the Chamber is keen to foster economic relations between Sharjah and Ugandan business communities. This is demonstrated through the visits that the chamber has led to Uganda since 2015, including a trade mission to the capital Kampala last year.

During this mission, the Sharjah – Uganda Business Forum was held to highlight investment opportunities in both countries, which had a significant impact on strengthening and developing economic ties between the two countries. Al Owais stated that Uganda is a promising market with great opportunities for Emirati businessmen.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General, said that the Chamber values such a significant visit and is willing to build upon it and further strengthen the relationship between Uganda and Sharjah. He emphasized that the Chamber looks forward to boosting cooperation with Uganda in various fields that would serve the interests of both sides.

Al Awadi also noted that trade relations between the UAE and Uganda are strong and growing, with trade exchange reaching $3.8 billion  in 2021 and the UAE being a major trading partner for Uganda.
