Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) has announced the formation of a new gold and jewelry business group, comprising 6 merchant-members and 6 jewler-members, proportionately representing various small, medium and large companies.
The decision was made during a meeting held by HE Abdullah Al Oweis, Chairman (SCCI), with a number of leading gold traders in the emirate to discuss the need to create a dedicated working group for gold, jewelry and precious stones.
Attendees at the meeting, recently held at the Sharjah Chamber's headquarters, unanimously agreed on the importance of forming this group to serve as a link between the Sharjah Chamber and the gold sector and contribute to the development of the sector by discussing what traders and designers go through at various levels.
The meeting was attended by HE Mohammad Ahmed Amin, Assistant Director General for the Communication and Business sector, Amjed Idriss, Business Group Section Head, Fatima Al Shehhi, Business Group Executive, and representing the gold sector, Aref Al Jaberi, Al Eman Jewelry shop proprietor, Abdulrahman Al Hamadi of Al’asjad Gold Jewerly shop, Ali Salem from Al Jazeera Gold Jewelry factory as well as Messrs. Ahmed Salem and Nirva Brakash.
HE Abdullah Al Oweis recommended that the work group be set up as soon as possible in order to meet the needs and requirements of all involved this vital sector, including the manufacturers, traders and representatives of all categories of small, medium and large companies equally. He also proposed to appoint the owner of the largest gold factory in Sharjah as the honorary chairman of the group.
Al Oweis stressed Sharjah Chamber’s keenness to fully support the gold sector in the emirate and enhance its attractiveness and competitiveness to meet traders’ and designers’ expectations and aspirations; as representative of the private sector, Sharjah Chamber endeavors to provide an attractive environment for business and investment in the different economic fields.
Discussion of the project to establish a gold center in Sharjah, proposed at the previous meeting, was concluded as the Chairman proposed to execute the project in the industrial area near university city. In turn representatives of the sector expressed their delight with the proposed site as a very suitable place for companies working in this field, while commercial shop representatives expressed their wish for the center to be close to city center.
