The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) inaugurated a temporary expansion for Expo Centre Sharjah with an overall area of 42,000 square feet, providing 221 additional stands. The new extension is made of metal frame, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The SCCI said that the new expansion of the Centre, which is being carried out for the first time with cutting-edge technology, follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasemi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is being supervised by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasemi, the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The expansion seeks to keep up with the continuing growth in the number of exhibitors and publishing houses that expressed their will to participate in the 36th Sharjah International Book Fair which will take place on November 1-11 and other expos and events that will take place in the Centre in the near future.
His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI, said that this project follows the futuristic vision of H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasemi and could not be realized without the close supervision and follow up of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasemi.
Al Ouwais affirmed the SCCI’s commitment to exerting all efforts required to perform its responsibilities in strengthening the course and position of Sharjah regionally and internationally in all fields of development, civilization, society, and culture. He noted also that the expansion of the Expo Centre Sharjah comes in light of the increasing demand of the rapid growth and development in hosting and organizing fairs and events in Sharjah, which has become a remarkable regional hub in this vital and important sector.
Al Ouwais also noted that launching this pioneering and innovative project is a quick, practical, and safe solution. “This is the first time that a structure of this type and scale is constructed in this record time, as this structure provides an extra display area of 42,000 square feet,” he explained.
HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority commended the project and the quick handover with cutting-edge technology that suit the leading position of the Centre as a key hub of innovation and business.
He also explained that the new extension comes as a proactive procedure to respond to the increasing demand for display areas. It also asserts the commitment of the wise leadership to continue the journey of development in all sectors. This vision is driven by a firm belief that advanced infrastructure is the basis for building a sustainable economy and happy community.
Adding further, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa explained that the project fosters the leading position of Sharjah International Book Fair on regional and international level. The new extension will play an active role in the development of exhibition sector and increase its returns.
For his part, His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of Sharjah Book Authority, lauded the SCCI and Expo Centre Sharjah for their initiative and efforts to improve the conditions of fairs and exhibition sectors in Sharjah, affirming that this expansion should bolster Sharjah’s reputation as a leading center for major activities and events in the region.
Al Ameri also explained that this expansion, which primarily came to meet with the growing number of participants in the Sharjah International Book Fair, embodies the unlimited support given by H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasemi for cultural and civilized projects. This shows His Highness’ commitment to integrating culture within the identity for Sharjah Emirate. Today, when we think of Sharjah, we think about leading cultural projects and civilized vision.
He went on to say that the expansion will cover the needs of the Sharjah International Book Fair which has garnered considerable interest from publishing houses and cultural establishments around the world, particularly after it managed to attract 4.8 million visitors in its last five versions.
For his part, His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Chief Executive Officer of Expo Centre Sharjah, extended gratitude and appreciation for the leadership of Sharjah for its valuable support and wise directives that resulted in this one-of-a-kind project and in record time. He also asserted that this project reflects the of the Centre’s commitment to keeping up with the rapid development of Sharjah International Book Fair and to ensure the sustainability of its success as one of the most important cultural fairs in the region.
