Sharjah Chamber” and “Oman Chamber” explore horizons of mutual cooperation    10/12/2016

The consultative meeting organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) with the delegation of the Omani Chamber of Commerce- South Batinah Region was concluded in Sharjah .

The meeting highlighted the most important investment opportunities and the business and touristic potentials of both sides. It aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and increasing trade exchange between the two brotherly states, in a step that will cement the targeted economic solidarity amongst the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

 

The meeting also highlighted the importance of building diverse economic partnerships that will contribute to a more sustainable development, and open the door for more mutual investments. The two parties discussed plans and steps to translate these opportunities into real partnerships in selected fields on the economic agenda of Sharjah and Oman.

The meeting was attended by HE Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), and members from the Chamber’s Board of Directors, and Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah, and Mohammed Ahmed Amin, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business sector and a number of businessmen from both sides.

Initiating the meeting, the visitors joined H.E. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry to a field tour within the premises of the chamber, where they were introduced to its important facilities. They also visited the permanent local manufacturing exhibition, which exhibits the products of more than one hundred different factories, selected from more than 2200 factories in Sharjah.

The visiting delegates were also introduced to the most important services that the Sharjah Chamber offers to facilitate the work of companies and the business community in Sharjah. ISSC saves no effort to promote Sharjah as a favourite place for investment for local and international companies, which contributes in building and developing the national economy.

 

 

 

 

H.E. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry said: “Organizing this meeting comes within our efforts in the Chamber to develop business relationships and enhance business partnerships between Sharjah and the Sultanate of Oman. By doing so we aim at boosting mutual cooperation and increasing bilateral trade, taking into account the great touristic and economic potentials that the two sides have. This will definitely serve the Gulf cooperation system and purpose”.

 

Al Owais called businessmen and investors from both sides to benefit from the investment opportunities and potentials available in different economic sectors, and to delve into new partnerships and enterprises to increase bilateral trade which is still under expectations. According to the latest figures, Sharjah imports from the Sultanate of Oman reached AED 700 million during 2015, and AED 414 million in exports, with a total trade value of AED 1.6 billion in 2015.

 

 

Ahmad Mohamad Obeid Al Nabooda, Board Member of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry delivered a speech in which he welcomed the Omani delegates in their second home; the UAE, and specifically in Sharjah. He asserted the depth of the historical and business relationships between the two countries. He also stressed on how keen Sharjah is to develop cooperative relationships between representatives of the private sector in Sharjah and the Sultanate of Oman through the organization of different events and visits. These events and visits have played a key role in nurturing and enhancing these relationships, thus enabling the Omani companies to participate in exhibitions and events organized by Sharjah, he added.

 

Al Nabooda stressed the importance of doubling the efforts to develop new joint initiatives that will help the business community in Sharjah and Oman materialize economic partnerships and enhance mutual cooperation. The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry will always do its best to overcome any obstacles, and facilitate cooperation between the two parties in all fields, he added.

Al Naboodah expressed his pride in the distinguished relationships between the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He saw the meeting a continuation of the cooperative efforts in industrial and business fields between the two chambers as part of the solidarity achieved within the Gulf Cooperation Council. He also stressed on how keen the Sharjah Chamber is to develop relationships with brothers in the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry to realize the targeted success.

H.E Hamoud bin Salim bin Mohammed Al Sadi, Chairman of the South Batinah Governorate branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivered a speech in which he stressed the strong and solid brotherly ties between the two peoples. He also confirmed the necessity to enhance economic, trade and touristic relationships between the two countries as part of the joint work of the GCC countries.

 

He said: “We are happy to be here in Sharjah today to attend this brotherly consultative meeting, and we are thankful for the warm reception. This meeting is meant to enhance cooperation and discuss different trade and industrial issues in order to achieve success for both parties and to overcome any obstacles and solve any problems that investors in Sharjah and Oman might face.

He added: “Our leadership in Oman encourages more development and progress in all economic and industrial fields, especially the development of ports and free zones. We invite all investors and businessmen in Sharjah to benefit from the progress that the Sultanate is witnessing by having more investments”.

The attendants then watched a documentary on Sharjah, which focused on the unique business environment, and the investment positive and attractive factors that the emirate offers.

Sharjah is the third biggest contributor to the UAE’s GDP. It hosts the biggest industrial zone in the UAE; not to forget its diverse economy, strategic location, modern ports, and advanced infrastructure and legislations.

After that, the attendants from both sides watched a promotion video on the Sultanate of Oman that focused on its attractive investment factors and diverse climate. Agriculture is one of the most productive sectors in Oman, and agricultural crops constitute the biggest chunk of the Omani non-oil exports.  

The attendants also listened to a presentation about the Sharjah Exports Development Center and the different services and value it added to the business community, especially to the manufacturing and exporting establishments. There was also another presentation about the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone focusing on its biggest achievements, its advanced infrastructure, quality logistics services, and incentives offered to investors.

The Omani delegation also visited the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone where they viewed its world-class service and light industry facilities. They were also made aware of the quality logistics services and incentives it offers to investors and businessmen.

The visitors also praised the role of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in promoting the emirate on the international investment map.
